While The DUFF conforms to every cliché you could possibly expect it to, it manages to do so in an entertaining fashion with a sharp satirical edge. Even at the end, when the movie clumsily preaches a message of self-acceptance in a speech that sounds like something out of Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul, you can't help but enjoy yourself. With an acerbic wit reminiscent of Mean Girls, anyone searching for a teen comedy could do much worse than The DUFF.
